Apertures is in eleven movements, each an aperture in time, and each increasing in duration. As the apertures continuously expand in length, the musical material fluctuates between extreme activity and inactivity, both within a single aperture, and from one to the next. What interested me most in writing this piece was the potential for comparison of the listener’s perceived notion of relative durations between apertures, to the actual durations.
This piece was in part created with the assistance of the Toronto Arts Council.
